Me and Pop Burning the Midnight Oil Haha I don't really look this mean, it was staged
I am a 26 year old artist from Labrador City, Newfoundland, A mining town in northern Canada.
Being so far north I spent many a day inside drawing and painting because, and I am not kidding,
our house would be completely snowed in, ridiculous I know. So basically I had to have a pass time
and since my grandfather was a painter I figured I would be to. He taught me the fundamentals but
eventually our art took very different paths. Pop specializes in the painting of steam engine trains,
and well you have probably already seen thats pretty far away from what I do.
People always ask me where I get my ideas, and the truth is I don't really know. I do know that ever
since I was a young lad I have had a very active imagination, not a good thing according to some of my
school teachers, but hey thats why I am an artist and not a mathemtician. The fact is that I have always
had these images swimming around in my mind and it just took a lot of practice, and a lot of time to get
them out right.
I get most of my inspiration from my memories. Certain things stick out as beautiful to me and I try to paint
them in combination with my own day dreams. When I finish a painting it is like merging things from the
outside world with my own thoughts.
I love painting scenes of Newfoundland and Labrador, there is just something about the light up here
that is different from any place I have ever been. The northern Lights are a constant source of energy and
inspiration. Labrador city is simply the most beautiful place I have ever been.
Painting is very satisfying for me, I love doing it and it makes me happy , and thats what life is all about.
I will paint until I die.
I currently live in my home town of Labrador, after moving back from a three year stay in Newbrunswick,
it has certainly not gotten any warmer up here , but I have been reinspired by the beauty of this amazing land.
You Can also find my work at the "Uncommon Gallery"

in Rothesay Newbrunswick , wich is a beautiful place run by
Meg Mulvanny, one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.

Oh how I miss your bright frosty days and your cold wicked winds
and your dark morning haze.
Oh how I long for your blizzardy bites on those cold winter mornings
and northern light nights.
Oh how I love your snowy topped trees and the chill that you bring
from my head to my knees.
I love your dark waters and sparkling skys, how the snow falls so white
and the sun always lies.
I wish to be taken in your cold frozen grips and again see the air
as it passes my lips.
Because there's no feeling so good and so right as tasting the air
on a Labrador night.
